The best ways to break up with someone?

I've been with someone for about five months, and though I care about her deeply, don't necessarily see us together forever.

At this juncture in my life (24), I'm past the point of playing games and am getting, kind of, sort of closer to wanting to settle down.

But....I always have a difficult time breaking up with someone - in fact, I think that it's harder for me to break up than to be broken up with.

Why is breaking up so hard to do, and what are the suggestions on how to do it? Long and drawn out, or quick and painful? The best ways to break up with someone?
suck it up and tell her what you just said here. it wont be easy and there will probably be crying. The best ways to break up with someone?
If you really want to do it and come away feeling good about yourself, then be a man and spell it out to her face to face, no excuses, no lies, just the god's honest truth. In five monthes, she must have at least earned the right to here this from your lips with no BS attached. Being a man is more than being able to jump as many women as you can, its about taking responsibility for your actions. In this case you got into a situation that isn't working for you, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!! If you are going to be a whimp, you'll end up married to someone you don't like just because your too chicken to be honest.
You have to be fair. Wether its long and drawn out or quick and painful its still gonna be painful for the other party. There's no such thing as a sweet break-up. Its better to tell her now so that atleast she can move on. It will be better for both of you, coz you can go on as well.
Talk to her and be honest. If you don't see it going anywhere, then you are hurting her by stringing her along. You know? Tell her what you just tell us. Tell her that you just do not see it being a longterm thing, and that you really are wanting that in this point in your life. I am at the same point. I'm 23 and sick of games. The last guy I dated broke up with me for that EXACT reason. It hurt, but I got over it. If someone doesn't see a future, then I don't want to force one.

Just, please, whatever you do, tell her in person. Do NOT call her and do it. Just be honest.

Amanda
id say if u do it quicker then you both have more time by urslef and one way not to is by eamil id say on the phone or in person and talk to her tell her you still want to be firends and alll...
1) honesty is the best policy

2)whether you wait for ages or you do it quick it will hurt anyway....i suggest you just get it over with

3)she will respect you more if you give it to her straight and tell her exactly how you are feeling....and trust me it will make you respect yourself too...i know it sounds wierd right now....but try and then you'll see what i mean :)

good luck
